Frequently asked

Honest answers, plainly.

You're trusting us with something irreplaceable. Here's exactly how it works, what we do with your stories, and what we will never do.

Is it really my book if AI helped write it?

+

Yes — every word in your book is built from words you actually said. The AI doesn't invent memories, opinions, or dates. It transcribes your voice, smooths the filler, and shapes the prose to read like a book instead of a transcript. We call this the "faithfulness pass": every paragraph is cross-checked against your raw audio. You can compare both side by side, edit anything, and your original recordings are kept forever so the source of every line is traceable.

Where is my voice and data stored?

+

Your audio and transcripts are stored encrypted in EU data centres (London + Frankfurt). Only you, and the people you explicitly invite, can read them. We never sell, share, or use your stories to train any third-party AI model. Transcription runs through OpenAI's API under a strict zero-retention agreement — they don't store or train on your audio.

Who owns the finished book?

+

You do. Full copyright. Echobound takes no rights over your story, your audio, or the printed book. You can republish it, sell it, give it away, or keep it inside the family forever.

What if I cancel — do I lose everything?

+

No. You always keep a downloadable PDF and a ZIP of your raw audio of everything written so far, even if you cancel. Your stories belong to you, not to a subscription.

What's your refund policy?

+

If you're not happy with your first chapter draft, we'll refund you in full — no questions, no forms. Once you've signed off the final manuscript and a hardcover is being printed, that part is non-refundable (it's a real book being made for you).

Can my (older) parent really use this?

+

Yes. The whole interview is voice-first — they tap one big mic button and talk. No typing, no menus to learn. Many of our users are 70+. If you're gifting it, you can sit with them for the first session, then they can pick it up alone whenever they like.
